Scholarship Disbursement Programme, Sep 29, 2013

The Scholarship Disbursement For Meritorious Students under the aegis of Prerana, Infosys, Mangalore, Vidyaposhak, Dharwad, Dhrithi Foundation, Mangaluru, and Yakshagana Kalaranga, Udupi was held on Sunday, 29th September 2013 at Infosys Campus, Kottara, Mangalore. Sri VK Talithaya, CEO, Primacy Industries, Mangalore, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

A total of 504 students, including those pursuing professional courses, from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts were supported to the tune of Rs. 19,92,843. Out of this Rs. 14,57,680 was contributed by Prerana, Infosys, Mangalore and the rest by other donors of Dhrithi Foundation, Vidyaposhak, Dharwad, and Supraja Foundation, Hong Kong.

The total amount of scholarship provided to students from Dakshina Kannada by Dhrithi Foundation-Vidyapohak and Prerana was Rs. 10,59,663, of which Rs. 6,09,120 was provided by Prerana, Rs. 246063 by Vidyaposhak, Dharwad and Supraja Foundation, Hong Kong (through Vidyaposhak, Dharwad), and Rs 2,04,500 by Dhrithi Foundation donors. Of this, R. 2,11,600 was provided to 106 newly selected students and Rs. Rs 8,48,063 was provided to 240 renewals.

This is the eighth year that Prerana, Vidya Poshak and Dhrithi Foundation are extending support to the needy meritorious students of Dakshina Kannada district.

Speaking on the occasion Sri VK. Talithaya asked the students to be prepared to take the challenge of multiple opportunites that are now available and to develop the mindset and skills to make the best choice among the available opportunities. Lamenting the increasing intolerance to differing opinions, Sri Talithaya said that such intolerance will hamper learning and progress and will remain an impediment to an open, just and democratic social order. He urged the students to have an open mind to different world views and to learn forever to improve one’s knowledge and skills.

Mr. Bhaskar Chiknanjundappa, Director i-Point Consulting Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Gangadhar Rao, Vice President, Yakshagana Kalaranga, Udupi and Mr. Raviraj Belma, Trustee, Prerana Trust, Infosys Mangalore graced the occasion. Ms. Divya of Prerana Infosys welcomed and Sri Vinay of Prerana Infosys compered.

Divyashree, a benefiiary of Dhrithi-Prerana support who completed her MSc in Mathematics and has since joined as a faculty at Vivekakananda ngineering College, thanked Dhrithi and Prerana for helping her to realise her dream of pursuing higher education in Mathematics. She urged all students to work hard and mak eth ebest use of the support provided. From her first salary, she contributed Rs. 5000 to Dhrithi Foundation to help a needy student.

Dr. Srinivas Kakkillaya, Secretary of Dhrithi Foundation, provided the details of the project and Harish Pejavar, Treasurer of Dhrithi Foundation admisnistered the oath to the students. Mr. Murali Kadekar from Yakshagana Kalaranga proposed the vote of thanks.

Rama Prasad from Infosys conducted an interactive session on Career Guidance – What after PUC for the students pursuing PUC. Sri Shrikanth Shenoy and his team from Infosys conducted another interactive session, along with role play, on Developing Personal Traits to become a True Professional for students pursuing graduarte and post graduate studies. Both the programmes were very much appreciated by the participating students.
