Scholarship Disbursement Programme, Oct 3, 2010

The fifth Scholarship Disbursement For Meritorious Students under the aegis of Prerana, Infosys, Mangalore, Vidyaposhak, Dharwad, Dhrithi Foundation, Mangaluru, Yakshagana Kalaranga, Udupi and Bevinje Sridhara Kakkillaya Foundation, Kasaragod was held on 4th October 2010 at Infosys Campus, Kottara, Mangalore. Dr. N.K Thingalaya, former Chairman, Syndicate Bank, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

A total of 574 students, including those pursuing professional courses, from Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod districts and from North Karnataka, were supported to the tune of Rs. 18,71,995 of which Rs. 15,40,220 was provided by Prerana, Infosys, Mangalore and the rest by other donors and Vidyaposhak, Dharwad.

This is the fifth year that Prerana, Vidya Poshak and Dhrithi Foundation are extending support to the needy meritorious students of Dakshina Kannada district. In addition to the financial support, Vidyaposhak and Dhrithi Foundation also provide books and soft skills training for the beneficiary students.

Sri Praveen Kalbavi of Prerana, Infosys, welcomed the guests and everyone. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. NK Thingalaya by lighting the lamp.

Sri Vilas Purohit, Coordinator, Resources, Vidyaposhak, spoke on the orgins of Vidyaposhak and its current activities. He also administered the oath to the beneficiary students.

Dr. Srinivas Kakkilaya, Secretary, Dhrithi Foundation, thanked Prerana, Mangalore for their magnanimous gesture of supporting most of the students. He also thanked all the donors and artists who participated in the Art for Cause Exhibition.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. NK Thingalaya, appreciated the efforts of Viyaposhak, Prerana and other organisations in reaching out to the needy meritorious students and said that it was the best tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He urged the students to be motivated and hard working to achieve what they aspire.

Harshini Kumari, student of Engineering at Hassan and a beneficiary of the programme for the past 3 years, spoke on behalf of the students. She narrated her difficulties in continuing her education and how Bevinje Shridhara Kakkilaya Foundation and Prerana helped her to join engineering course.

Sri Murali Kadekar of Yakshagana Kalaranga, Udupi proposed a vote of thanks.

Mr. Nithin of Prerana conducted the programme.

Following the scholarship disbursement process, a session on soft skills was conducted for the students by Mr Manoj Louis from Dept of Commerce and Mgt, Govt First Grade College Bantwal.
