Scholarship Disbursement Programme, August 12, 2007

The second programme of disbursement of scholarships to meritorious students was held under the auspices of Prerana, Mangalore in association with Vidya Poshak, Dharwad, Dhrithi Foundation, Mangalore, Yakshagana Kalaranga, Udupi and Bevinje Shridhara Kakkillaya Pratistana, Kasaragod on Sunday, August 12, 2007 at the Infosys Campus, Kottara, Mangalore. Three hundred and eleven students from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasaragod districts were provided the financial support amounting to Rs. 6, 13,300. Of the 311 students, 253 were sponsored by the employees of Infosys, Mangalore under the aegis of Prerana, Mangalore. The remianing students were sponsored by various donors including Sri Dinesh Rao and Smt Manorama Rao of San Jose, California, Sri Satish Mayya and Smty. Gopika Mayya of UAE, Dr. Prabhakar H, Cardiologist at Mangalore, Dr. Ajay Ramachandra of West Midlands, UK, Drs. Ravish Thunga and Suchitra Thunga of Mangalore, Sri Ramesh Udupa, Bangalore, Sri Padmanabha Adappa, Mumbai, Smt. Jayashree, Mangalore, Trustees of Dhrithi Foundation and from Vidya Poshak, Dharwad.

Sri Maheshwara Rao, IAS, Hon’ble Deputy Commossioner of Dakshina Kannada was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Sri R.N. Tikot, CEO of Vidyaposhak, Dharwad spoke on the genesis and growth of Vidyaposhak and urged the students to work hard to realise their dreams by acquiring knowledge, making the best use of their inherent intelligence.

Dr. B.S. Kakkilaya, Secretary of Dhrithi Foundation, explained how the variuos organisations joined together for the purpose and thanked Prerana, Mangalore for their whole hearted and noble gesture of supporting most of the students chosen for the financial assistance and for organising the even in the campus of Infosys, Mangalore. He also thanked all the other donors and the volunteers for their difficult task of visiting the houses of the applicants.

Mr. Bhaskar CN of Infosys spoke on how the employees of Infosys, Mangalore got involved in this noble Project of Vidyaposhak and assured that the support would grow stronger in the years to come.

Sri Naren Koduvattat, Chief of Infosys, Mangalore and Managing Trustee of Prerana urged the students to work hard and maintain their excellence in academics so that the support could be continued every year. He said that the employees of Infosys, Mangalore and elsewhere would be happy to contribute more to support many more deserving students. He said that Infosys was built as an extra ordinary oragnisation by ordinary people who came from humble backgrounds and urged students to work hard to achieve their goals.

Sri Maheshwara Rao, Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner lauded the efforts of the organisers in providing the assistance to the needy, meritorious students. He urged the students to work hard to earn the scholarship in coming years. He suggetsted that the students be provided with career guidance so that they can make wise choices.

Sri V.K. Talithaya, Trustee of Dhrithi Foundation, asked the students to make th ebest use of the opportunities available and to make right choices for their careers so that they could enjoy their work. He also suggeted them to develop a positive outlook even in failure so that such obstacles could be easily overcome.

Five students, chosen among the beneficiaries were given the cheques by the dignitaries and members of Prerana.
